Feeling Thankful

Today being ANZAC Day is a day to realise how thankful I am for everything our ancestors have done to ensure our country remains free from war and conflict. Today is the day where I am feeling thankful.

Anzac

ANZAC DAY (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) is held each year on the 25th April in commemoration of the soldiers who fought for our countries during World War 1. Exactly 100 years ago today Australian and New Zealand soldiers set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open the neighbouring region to the allied navies.

When the Anzacs landed on Gallipoli (Turkey) they were met with fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders.

ANZAC DAY is celebrated by Commemorative services being held at dawn across the nation. Dawn was the time of the original landing in Gallipoli.

So, this morning (as we do every year) we were amongst a crown of approximately 100,00 people who attended the Dawn service at The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne. It’s a wonderful opportunity for people from all walks of life to celebrate freedom and remember those who fought for it.

In our current day and age, it is incredibly refreshing to see so many people still believe in freedom and happiness. I am truly proud to be one of them.

So, whenever you need to feel thankful, think about those who have sacrificed their lives for your freedom.

Lest We Forget
