Want to improve your mood? Try essential Oils!
How do you feel when you breathe in the aroma of a beautiful flower? Do you like the smell of freshly cut grass? What does the smell of fresh lemon do for your mood? Did you know that humans can identify thousands of different scents and that aromas are more precise than our sense of taste?
So, how can you improve your mood with Essential Oils?
The best scents are said to improve our mood, enhance our energy and libido, boost our memories and more. Breathing in certain scents can actually improve our health by lowering stress levels, improving sleep, ease pain and even improve mental clarity and physical performance.
1. Rid Yourself of Headaches
Inhaling the scent of Lavender will help if you are suffering from stress or headache. Sprinkle a few drops Lavender Essential Oil on your pillow, or on a handkerchief and inhale that wonderful aroma. Place some freshly cut lavender flowers in a vase beside your bed for a good nights sleep.
2. Invigorate Your Mood
Peppermint has been known to increase motivation, energy and confidence. Try inhaling the scent of Peppermint before performing a gym workout or when you feel your energy levels flagging.
3. Treat Insomnia
Though Insomnia can be a condition of underlying issues, essential oils can certainly help to relax you. Lavender has been used for centuries in various ways. Try 1 – 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oils on your pillow (add to a tissue and tuck it into your pillow case). You can also diffuse Lavender Oil or inhale it (add a couple of drops to a basin of hat water, cover your head with a towel and breathe in).
4. Reduce Stress
Feeling stressed? Doing too much? Try and relax at the end of the day with a blend of two or three of the following: Lavender, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Geranium, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang. Add 1 – 2 drops to your evening bath. Use a diffuser. Use as a foot or hand massage (blend with a carrier oil)
5. Rid Yourself of Fatigue
My favorite is Peppermint Oil. Add 3 – 4 drops directly to your hands, rub together then massage your neck, shoulders and back. Add to a carrier oil if preferred. The aroma of Peppermint is amazingly refreshing and energising. Other suggested oils include Eucalyptus, Lemon and Rosemary.
When applying Essential Oils topically, ensure that they are actually Essential Oils and not Oil Blends (which are generally synthetic). Test an area first to ensure that you have no negative reaction.
