Planning a Micro-Adventure for the Not So Adventurous
7 ways to overturn your mediocre life and embrace change – a micro-adventure is the key!
Here in Australia, the weather is heating up, and that means it’s time to head outdoors and make the most of it. Spring and summer are the perfect seasons to plan an exciting micro-adventure or three.
Maybe you don’t consider yourself an adventurous person. Well, guess what? You can turn your everyday, boring life into an adventure without having to do anything scary or dangerous.
While making changes in your life can be difficult, it doesn’t need to be. Starting small and making micro changes will be easier and much less stressful.
It’s also easy to plan a micro-adventure that doesn’t cost an arm or a leg.
Here are some of my favorite micro-adventure ideas:

1. Take a walk or hike somewhere different
Life is always an adventure when you step out of your comfort zone. So, open up google maps and see where you can go that is exciting and different from your usual.
2. Take an unplanned road trip
If you have a car, then it’s time to fill up the fuel tank, jump behind the wheel, and see where the road takes you.
Your perfect micro-adventure could become a full-day adventure, or even an overnighter if you prefer.
3. Take a foodie road trip
In Australia (and probably in other countries too) many regional towns are struggling due to bushfires, droughts, and floods.
Pack your esky (icebox) and travel to a regional area, sample their local foods and buy up!
There’s nothing better than supporting local communities. So, yes, even just one micro-adventure can help save the world!

4. Change how you travel
If you normally travel by car, then step out of your comfort zone and try a different form of travel.
One of my favorite ways to travel is by bus or train. I love jumping on a bus or train to the end of the line and exploring the area. This is the perfect micro-adventure!
5. Eat somewhere different
If you are stuck eating at the same cafes and restaurants, then it’s time to try somewhere new. Got a favorite cuisine? Try a cafe or restaurant featuring that cuisine that you haven’t visited before. Or better still, try entirely new cuisine.
6. Sleep under the stars
You don’t need to go far to enjoy this, simply pack your sleeping bag and set up camp in your own backyard. The added bonus here is that your fridge and bathroom are still close by.

7. Create an interesting challenge
Do you love challenges as much as I do? Your challenge doesn’t have to be hard. Make it a small challenge and keep it a local micro-adventure.
Love to walk or jog?
Then walk or jog along your local train lines. Map out the lines, then make a plan to complete them all in a week or month.

Want to cycle instead?
Then cycle your local streets, or pick a town or suburb nearby and cycle the local streets there. Map out the streets or areas before you start this micro-adventure.
Love to swim?
Then explore the local lakes, streams, rivers, or beaches. Be sure to swim safely, whether it’s between the flags or with a friend.
