The Importance Of Self Care – Are You Neglecting Your Health?
We’ve all been there, we’re too busy, too overwhelmed, simply haven’t got the time to do what your body, mind and soul really needs ~ Self Care. Self Care is so very important for your health and wellbeing yet why do we always neglect ourselves and prioritise other tasks ahead of our own wellbeing?
I know hard it can be to schedule a massage or a spa when there are so many other priorities and so much work to do. Self care can feel like too much of an indulgence. But a little bit of pampering can make all the difference between being stressed and in pain to becoming the person you know you truly can be.
Today I finally had to take time out for myself. I’d been suffering terribly from neck and back pain off and on for weeks. I’d ignored it the best I could but it got to the point where I couldn’t sleep without pain killers, couldn’t walk without a limp and would cry out when my guy gave me a simple hug.
It was time to take care of ME!
Since our move to QLD I had come to the realisation that travelling to Melbourne to see my favourite Osteopath each month wasn’t a part of my reality 🙁 I hated the idea of having to find someone else who was as amazing as she was. So whenever I felt pain, I managed it the only way I knew how. Some stretching, foam rolling, pain killers and swapping shifts at work to have consecutive days off.
Two days ago I realised I had to see someone, urgently! I made an appointment for a remedial massage. Sadly, this appointment got cancelled! I was beyond disappointed until my guy googled and found another massage therapist nearby. I immediately booked myself in, endured the bus ride and entered the clinic.
Just so you know, I’ve never had a remedial massage before so had no idea what to expect.
I walked (hobbled) into the clinic and was immediately welcomed. My lovely therapist Lara made me feel immediately welcome. For the entire hour I felt more relaxed than I had in a long time even though the treatment was intense at times (hello glutes). I enjoyed a full back, shoulder and neck massage, some cupping, fascial release and trigger point therapy.
All I can say is hallelujah, my back is so much better, not 100% but definitely an improvement. I can walk properly and the pain is much less.
So, the moral to this story? Don’t wait till it’s too late to enjoy some self care.
The longer you wait the longer it will take for you to relax and become rejuvenated. I for one know that I will need to return next week for more treatment since I neglected my health for too long.
Since I still have a few days to kill, I’m off to spend some time at the beach. Hello suntan 🙂
